Magic rejected the Nets' offer of Brook Lopez, Kris Humphries, MarShon Brooks & 4 1st rounders?!! That's the best offer they can get from any team, imo. Instead, they settled for Afflalo, Harrington, Vucevic, Harkless & 3 1st rounders (all picks are from teams projected to make the playoffs). Wow.

For one thing, they didn't reject the deal as much as the free agents involved didn't want to do the sign and trade. Lopez is either injury risk or borderline all-star. Humphries rental for year or two does nothing for them. They didn't like Brooks, who wouldn't be the best fit in Orlando. I think it came down to the free agents and Lopez's injury risk. Afflalo is probably the most underrated player in the NBA. He can flat out shut people down, I can't think of a better 2-guard defender right now. Harrington will help them continue their strategy of spreading the floor after losing Anderson to the Hornets. Vucevic and Harkless were mid-first round picks, and Vucevic has some range to the 3-point line and Harkless is pretty athletic. And they still got a lot of picks. I can't imagine how much better they would be if they never traded Gortat. They could accept a package without a center and could still be good enough for at least the 5 seed. The thing is, the Magic might still make the playoffs this way, and it would be better for the organization to bottom out and get Shabazz Muhammad or Noel, who would give the defensive presence of Howard back almost immediately (seriously, that guy is a scary shot-blocker). It's not the worst trade they could agree to, but it isn't the best one either.
The Nets deal sucked. It was crap. What they traded for sucked. It was also crap.
They were getting crap either way, and people were going to complain. In the end, they chose the crap that wouldn't include a player on a max, or near-max, contract that is coming off a twice broken foot.
Miege22: Had to start spending my own money on them haha

teefbe: Since Minny decided quickly on re=signs and player options are we going to move up free agency like last year or it stays on 12th?
Jul 30, 2018 16:15:50 GMT -5
Miege22: I've created a poll on the topic. Moving up FA is harder to do than the draft because it impacts everyone. If even one owner is not on board with moving it up, we'll leave it to start on the 12t

Cleveland Cavaliers: Are you a contender? Do you need another solid contributor for your squad on literally the cheapest deal possible? Well you're in luck, Allen Crabbe is your man! For the low cost of a 2019 draft pick that won't be high cuz you're a contender

zephyr: landry shamet's at 21.1 mpg for the season -- does that mean toronto has to make a decision on activating him from d-league?
Nov 27, 2018 11:30:31 GMT -5
Miege22: I think we need to go a little longer on the d-league signees, all of them, this year. 20 games isnt' a huge sample size, and a few low or no minute games can drastically impact those averages.
Nov 27, 2018 11:38:06 GMT -5
Miege22: I don't think a decision needs to be made until the last week of our season.
