How can one "HOPE OFF?"
Yet, I agree with Boston here, if you only think Kidd's lasting until 2011, why'd you decide to pay him to 2013? You get to pay a retired dude for two years...
Atlantic Division Rankings:
1. Charlotte Bobcats
Signs: Baron Davis, Dwanye Wade, Elton Brand, Ramon Sessions
This, in my opinion, could be the best free agencies of this year. If Baron's healthy, he's going to be a great scorer, plus he'll have potential targets in Eric Gordan, Marcus Camby, and Blake Griffin. Dwanye's lookin' to contend for a title, and that's enough motivation for him to play extremely well. Before the all star break last year, it wasn't surprising to see him 29-8-5 and three steals. Elton Brand could also be a role player in Philadelphia, if he is healthy. He'd have to loose some weight, but he's a great back-to-the-basket player. Ramon Sessions is a beast, a complete beast. He's a free agent, and any team he signs with, he will be a starter, whether it be at the one-guard or the two-guard.
2. Brooklyn Nets
Signs: Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Pau Gasol, Tony Parker, Lou Williams, Rashard Lewis
Busy offseason for Brooklyn... I like his stacks in point guards, as they'll be very valuable trading chips. I'm not going to say much about contracts, but he played his draft and FA very smart, stacking good players at most positions. I think Rashard was a little overpaid, though, as he'll be playing reduced with the depth of Orlando.
3. Toronto Raptors
Signs: Andre Miller, Jason Thompson, Richard Jefferson
Not much good, or bad to say about this. Andre's not going to be as prominent as he was in years before, due to age, but he'll be someone to rely on because he's shown that injury won't limit him. I think Toronto overpaid for Thompson, and the hype about him in Sacremento won't really turn out to be true. Sacramento's point-guard loaded, and plus, they have Kevin Martin. Martin's their go-to scorer and can easily light up for 40+ pts. If Martin, as in years past, is injured for a majority of the season, then Thompson's definitely worth that $6,000,000. Richard Jefferson was a complete steal, as his numbers will take a hit, but his percentages will go up in San Antonio. He's playing with better players, and won't be relied on to score 25+ a game.
4.Washington Wizards
Signs: Allen Iverson, Matt Barnes, James Johnson, Chris Andersen
Well, signing a whole bunch of role players isn't usually that effective, but with the limited cap space I had, I think I did okay. Allen Iverson better start in Charlotte, and if he does, I have a feeling, just a feeling, that he'll do okay. Matt Barnes, now, I think was a mistake. That $500,000 could have been better spent on other players, but with Grant Hill aging, I think Barnes will be relied on more and more in Phoenix. James Johnson is the type of forward that Chicago loves, tall and lanky. He has upside, but it will be a few years before it breaks through. Andersen's a solid backup PF/C in Denver, and he's a high-energy player. I'm hoping that the coach'll recognize his energy, and let me reign free in games, picking points, blocks, and rebounds.
5. Boston Celtics
Signs: Tyson Chandler.
I think Boston's the big loser in Free Agency. He popped himself in the draft, after signing a couple huge contracts. He said he needed a center, but he got Tyson Chandler instead. Tyson, in Charlotte, won't be too effective, even when healthy. That opens a spot for Nazr Mohammed....
