What a joke. New lotto format is trrraaaaassshhh This is why I posted this in the Trade Discussion thread after the Simmons trade: I just hope Atlanta indeed gets Zion. Or Cleveland. I don't want to see Tampa or Brooklyn luck into Zion from a 5-8ish lottery spots haha (they have LVs and MIN picks) The revamped lotto odds kind of boned Atlanta and Cleveland in this regard. If the season ended today, Atlanta, Cleveland and Tampa Bay would all have the same odds to land the top pick. And now the top-4 picks will be in the drawing, instead of the top-3. Gives another spot to a potential lower team. It was part of the reason I was hesitant on the Simmons trade. That Toronto pick just isn't as valuable as it would have been last year. These new lotto odds are going to make those mid-lotto picks far more valuable, and they're going to devalue the top-3 picks rather significantly.

I would be very happy if we landed the #1 pick but also aware the odds are not that great as past lotteries. But is Zion worth the gamble? Yes, he def is worth the gamble. We did get the #5 pick and Kuzma in that trade so it's not that bad of a lost. I feel Simmons just cant carry a team to a championship without developing a 3pt shot and improved ft%. Without those stat improvements team will start figuring out his game. It showed how teams adjusted to Simmons' game in the playoffs.

I should note that I'm not questioning the decision to make the trade. Hawkeye, you've been here, you know what you're doing. I was mainly referring to how things might proceed moving forward. I do wonder if people will be a little more reluctant to trade picks knowing that picks in the 5-9 range have a better shot to jump up. Just thinking aloud.

This new Lotto system is really an eye opener after the Pelicans got the #1 pick. And i do agree Miege, 5-9 picks have more value now. The new lottery suddenly became suspenseful.
