You know, as I track this Tampa-Chicago score, I keep coming back to the same three thoughts.
1. If I'm Tampa, I know I will never encounter a more frustrating series than this one. You could argue that they lost 5 of their top 6, and 6 have basically been out the whole series. The 7th is a d-league guy who doesn't play. Literally just having Sabonis potentially flips this series in their favor. Has to be maddening.
2. On the flip side, I'm terrified if I'm Chicago because there's really no reason it should be this close. I know Mitchell has been out and Randle only has 6 games this match-up, but I would prefer to be in a much more comfortable position considering I'm closing in on a 200 minutes played advantage.
3. Lastly, as a neutral observer... never sell would be my motto if I were a playoff team. Is it taking a wildly unique set of circumstances to take Tampa out of this? Yeah. However, how many times have we said that over the years? At this point, with rest and injury maintenance being what it is in today's game, seemingly all these match-ups are becoming toss-ups. If things hold, then both #3 seeds will make the finals. Last year, had Chicago not forgotten to set their lineup for a day, then both #4 seeds would have won the first round. Two years ago, the #1 seed in the East lost in round 1 and the #1 seed in the West lost to a team four games worse than them. Neither #1 seed made the finals in 2017, and the West #1 lost in round 1.
Yeah, all the circumstances were different, but we see this happen time and time again. And look, this is not a criticism of the teams that did sell this past deadline. Everyone has to do what they think is best for their team, and not everyone will even agree with how I see it. But man, it's hard not to have that takeaway.

I’ve never been this frustrated and irritated with a matchup. Losing 7 guys and knowing if I had probably just ONE of them, then this series would likely be over is a tough pill to swallow. I don’t expect to win. I’m surprised I’m hanging around to be totally honest.
