We'll have a short offseason so I'm posting this right away. This might seem out of the blue, but I woke up today, got this idea and thought it was cool since I don't really rock with real life Celtics. This wouldn't be an issue divison and conference wise as the team would stay in North Division, but I'd like to hear whether you're fine with this guys.
1. The franchise you are moving has NEVER won a championship in that city.
Never won the whole thing, been to the playoffs just once until 2018. Since taking over the team 4 years ago went to the playoffs 3 times, while getting bounced in the first round each time.
2. You may only move your team to a city that would realistically host an NBA franchise (for example, a city like Topeka would not be able to support an NBA team, as they do not have the facilities).
New York. Is there anything more to say? Mecca. They've been good this year in real life, but even when they weren't, the Knicks still run NY. That city is going to host the Knicks till the end of time.
3. You may NOT move your team outside the continental United States.
Checks
4. You must submit an application for relocation to the Permission for Relocation board in the Commissioner's office.
Here it is
5. Your application must include the following:
-Specify reasons for leaving
After Chicago's championship, as they were led by Julius Randle, who was previously on the Celtics, barbarians are at the gate calling for GMs head. Boston doesn't want this team anymore. Team itself needs a fresh start too. After yet another dissapointing playoff loss this organization needs a shakeup not only on it's roster, but as a brand as well. The Celtics have been a poverty franchise for the most part of their time in this league and while new ownership has done a good job of making the team competitive, the expectations are higher and we'd like to start a new chapter in a new city.
-Set a timeline of where you plan on your team being from years 1-5
We've been to the playoffs 3 years in a row now and are motivated to build a championship winning team around Joel Embiid. Every year is a "win now" year from now on and we plan on being a factor in the playoffs for years to come.
-Get permission from other team if you are moving them to city with another team.
I believe that New York City is big enough to handle two NBA teams, are you in for a battle of New York, Miege22 ?
-If moving them to an unoccupied city, you must state why the city you want to move to would want you to move there.
Already gave reasoning on this one.
-Finally, it will be voted on by the league, and you will need 2/3rds approval.
6. Lastly, be realistic. If you take over a team such as the Cavaliers or Suns, those teams aren't moving anytime soon. Don't expect to be able to move them here either (same goes for Boston, LA, San Antonio, etc.)
Celtics are a historic franchise, but not in this league, we don't even have the Lakers, and the Knicks have a high cultural status in this sport.
